I'm a full-time Nurse and mother of 3 boys. I've been trying to be a real runner for a long time, but am now finding the 'time' available to finally do it.

Oh, and I'm married to jun. Don't hold that against me.

2:16:42 - Hi, this is jun. I'm writing this for M while she stretches and showers. I'll write the rest of it as though I was her.

**flip the hair, pout the lips, be the mommy, be the mommy, be the mommy**

Hi, my name is Emily. I'm married to jun. I've been a runner off and on for years, but have never really been focused on training or racing. Jun and I signed up for the Halloween Half and I've been training for that consistantly since the beginning of August. My totally awesome hubby finally got me to sign up for the blog, so here I am.

I was supposed to run 12 miles today and wanted some downhill training, so I drove 3 miles up Millcreek Canyon and parked my car. After about 2.5 miles I had to hop in the bushes for a potty stop, but then cruised on. I've been working hard on fueling properly and therefore made sure I ate a gel every 30 minutes and took a salt pill every 45 minutes. I ran from Millcreek down to 23rd then south all the way to Murray-Holladay Blvd. From there I cruised up to Wander Ln and then all the way down to Cottonwood and Walker ln. From there I went all the way around to 6200 S and up to Holladay Blvd. Half way up to Holladay Blvd it ocurred to me that I was going to hit my 12 miles way too early (like 3 miles early). I was feeling really good though and just decided to keep running. I hit the half marathon mark and called it quits. I still had about 2.5 miles to get home and didn't have my phone with me, so I just walked the rest of the way.

What an awesome day. I've needed to have a good run as many of my runs over the last week have been miserable. So happy this went well and that I was able to go further than I thought I could.

Recovery run 4 miles, 41:02; Avg Pace 10:14

After 3 night shifts in a row at the hospital, I woke up this afternoon and went straight out for a run around 4pm. Little did I know there were strong winds and rain. However, I headed into the wind on my normal Cottonwood/Highland route. I had to battle the wind in the first mile, but between 1-3.5 miles, I felt really good. I was able to settle pretty well into a stride that felt comfortable and the temperature, despite the rain, was wonderful. It was a great recovery run for my 13.1 miles last Friday. My quads were still a little sore, but it felt good to stretch them out during a run instead of walking around the hospital!

Craig and I had an incredibly pathetic run tonight. We left the house feeling great and in awe of the perfect weather condition...we just needed to do 6 miles...no problem, right? Unfortunately, 1/2 mile into our run, we both encountered what may possibly be described as the worst heartburn in the world. We stopped for a few minutes in hopes that a break may help...but it did not. So, we pushed forward at a ridiculous pace hoping still that the heartburn may subside. Mine did not, nor was I alone. We went on for 4 miles until we both felt as though vomit would soon be incorporated into our adventure and stopped. We took a nice stroll of .80 miles home to take some alka-seltzer. What a waste of a great night to run...oh well...hopefully the next run will go better.

So, my husband keeps bugging me because I'm not as good about logging my runs on the blog yet as he is...(his are usually logged before he has time to take his shoes off).

I felt great on this run...I progressively got faster and I really pushed myself during my last mile. I successfully, for the first time in my life, hit a 7:52 pace at one point during mile 6, which brought my last split to a 9:29 pace. To some that may seem slow, but it was awesome for me. I had a lot of energy and the weather conditions were perfect. Why can't all runs be like this one?

My husband, jun, and I met his mother and her friend to run the course for the Halloween Half down Provo canyon. Oh goodness...was this a beautiful run!? Amazing. I attempted to hold back my pace during the first few miles down the canyon so that I could warm up and not pound my knees into the ground. It worked, I had a good amount of energy during my run. I don't think I really have the "downhill" running technique mastered yet...my knees really ached during the steeper sections in the canyon. However, it was cool and cloudy, perfect for running. I was able to manage my calorie intake well and besides some slight tightness in my left calf at the end, my legs felt great. This run made me even more excited for the race!

Ran 4.5 with Craig during the Pony Express 100. If it wasn't for me he would never have finished (Craig is writing this).

Rode another 3 miles on the bike. Further proof he couldn't have finished without me.

32:49 Holladay out and back. I haven't been posting details because I was sick last week and have been really busy this week. Today is Craig's birthday. He's 38. Feel free to make fun of him. We are heading out tonight for sushi and possibly 2 movies. Yes, 2.
